Third annual AdoptAPlatoon supply drive a success
12/1/2011 - - Staff and supporters of Passages Hospice collected more than $3,000 in cash and supplies to send overseas to our troops this holiday season.
“Our soldiers depend on our support as much as we depend on their bravery,” says Sean Chramega, a Passages Hospice Clinical Educator, Iraqi veteran and Army Reservist.
The third annual drive supports a platoon of 50 U.S. soldiers stationed in the Middle East with toiletries, food, clothing and gifts for the holidays.
Each soldier will receive a stocking full of holiday candy, a pack of socks, a fleece blanket and a toothbrush with toothpaste. In addition, the platoon will receive two portable DVD players with a wide selection of DVDs, sports equipment and balls, games and cards, magazines and books, stationary and writing instruments, batteries, tools, first aid supplies, snacks and drinks and personal care items.
“You can’t put a price on helping others,” said Seth Gillman, Passages Hospice Administrator. “We get to share our holidays with our families. The least we can do is try to share some of that joy.”
The supplies collected weighed more than 500 pounds and were shipped through the AdoptAPlatoon organization in time to arrive for the holidays. For more information, please visit www.adoptaplatoon.org or www.passageshospice.com.
